It's something of a surprise to see Switzerland available at big odds to win at Port Elizabeth on Monday afternoon. Ottmar Hitzfeld's team produced a perfect performance to defeat pre-tournament favourites Spain and the strict disciplinarian will now be working on a way to counteract Chile's attacking style.
Although the Swiss rode their luck at times in the opening match, they were hard-working, organised and dangerous on the counter-attack. Eren Derdiyok defied his lack of international experience by playing some excellent football and Blaise N'kufo will once again hold the ball up in attack and bring others into play. It appears that they will have to manage without Philippe Senderos, although Steve von Bergen proved an able deputy in Durban.
Chile's attacking style could ultimately play into the hands of their unfashionable but effective opponents.
