Having begun heroically against Spain, Switzerland’s World Cup fizzled out in the Free State Stadium in a match in which their shortcomings in attack were exposed by a Honduran team that had it been more composed in front of goal might have achieved their first victory in a World Cup. Hakan Yakin’s introduction by manager, Ottmar Hitzfeld, threatened a breakthrough but the Swiss snatched at their chances.
