Southampton - Portsmouth

Southampton host Portsmouth at St. Mary's Stadium on 11 October 2026 for this matchday 9 Championship encounter. The home side enters the fixture looking to regain momentum following a recent defeat to Wrexham, though their attacking output remains a significant threat, evidenced by a clinical 4-1 victory over Bristol City earlier in September. With James Ward-Prowse anchoring the midfield in the expected XI, Southampton will aim to leverage their home advantage against a visiting side looking to stabilize their own league campaign.

Portsmouth arrive seeking consistency after a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers. While they have struggled for rhythm throughout the early weeks, their defensive unit, expected to feature Regan Poole and Madiodio Dia, faces a stern test against a potent Southampton attack. With key absences including Conor Shaughnessy, Portsmouth must remain disciplined to navigate this high-stakes meeting between the two sides.
