Ballon d'Or Betting - Who Are the Favourites?
By now, there is usually a clear odds-on favourite with the best betting sites to win the Ballon d'Or, but the recent World Cup has only confused the betting market. There are now a host of different players that could be chosen for the prestigious award.
Ballon d'Or Awards Ceremony Date
The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place on October 26. This year, the event changes venue and moves to London for the first time in its history. The choice of London pays tribute to English footballer Stanley Matthews, the first winner of the award 70 years ago.
Harry Kane - 2.26 Fav with bet365
England's Harry Kane is the general favourite for the Ballon d'Or 2026 but his odds suggest this race is now much closer following the World Cup. Kane had been shorter to take the prize after another brilliant Bundesliga season with Bayern Munich.
Kane scored 61 goals in 51 matches for title-winning Bayern last season, which is the main reason he sits at the head of the market. Surpassing 60 goals in a single season has only been achieved by Messi (73 goals in 2011/12) and Cristiano Ronaldo (61 in 2014/15). He also managed to bag 14 goals in 13 Champions League matches last campaign.
He finished the World Cup on six goals but didn't end the final two games in top form as England fell at the semi-final stage against Argentina. That is the biggest issue that has thrown doubt over his chances.
Lamine Yamal - 2.87
Yamal's place near the top of the market is more about achievements than impressive numbers. He won La Liga with Barcelona before helping Spain lift a second World Cup. This latest success means he became the first player to play in and win a European Championship final and a World Cup final before the age of 20.
World Cup performances and achievements always have a big impact on Ballon d'Or betting and he would likely be available at much higher odds if Spain hadn't won. It feels like he is destined to win this at some stage but he may have to wait this year.
Kylian Mbappé - 5.00
Mbappé had a great World Cup from a personal point of view. The France striker once again picked up the Golden Boot to become the competition's all-time leading goalscorer and the first player to take the award twice.
That said, Real Madrid ended the season trophyless and France got knocked out in semi-final to eventual winners Spain. He is rightly in the Ballon d'Or conversation but not lifting any silverware is a big hindrance.
Rodri - 5.50
The Spain midfielder has been one of the biggest market movers based on the World Cup alone. He struggled to return to top form following injury and saw his Man City side lose out on the Premier League title.
However, the World Cup saw him shoot back to prominence as he controlled games and helped Spain to the title in USA, Mexico and Canada. He won the Golden Ball for being the player of the tournament and will be hoping that can see him lift the Ballon d'Or once more after his first success in 2024.
Lionel Messi - 6.60
Messi is another that has to be considered based on his status in the game but also on his recent World Cup exploits. The Argentina star rolled back the years to help push his national side to the final.
He ended up runner-up in the Golden Boot race with eight goals and four assists, including a hat-trick in the opening game against Algeria. Another Ballon d'Or trophy would be a record-extending eighth title for Messi.
